COUNTY COUNCIL
The County Council met yesterday afternoon, there being present:—The Chairman (Mr Clark), and Crs Coleman, Tuohy, King, McPhail, Murphy, and Stubbs. Mr L. Izod. Maraetaha, wrote drawing attention to the dangerous condition of a culvert on the Mahia Road, on Mr Johnson’s property. Mr J. W. Johnson wrote pointing out that some works were urgently needed in the Maraetaba district, and asking the Council to attend the matter at once. The Engineer was ordered to visit the district and ha ze the necessary repairs done. The settlers in the Waimata Riding wrote asking that sime more culverts be placed on the roads in their district. The Engineer said they were not necessary. The lenders for drains at To’oga Bay were declined, being too It was decided to enforce penalties in Mossman’s contract (£7 8s), and Graham’s contract, £1 ss.
The question of building a bridge across the Taruheru river to the freezing works was aszain under consideration. Captain Tucker offered the land on the Gisborne side at £2O an acre. The matter was allowed to stand over till next meeting to Fee if the Council had a right to expend money on such works. The Engineer was ordered to take a road through Ruangarehu to ihe river bed.
