Last night. Parliament assembles on Thursday of next week. A Telegraph and Postal Officers' Society has been formed at Dunedin. John Cargill was found dead in his but, Bineskin Bay, Otago. The Gear Meat Company have declared an interim dividend for the half year at tha rata of 10 per cent. A body found in Dunedin Harbor has been identified as that of Charles Anderson, fellmonger. Information from Olaki is to the effect that Thomas Walker, aged 18, was drowned while crossing Kuku creek, on horseback. At Petone on Saturday daring a football match between Wellington and Epaci, Wiltord, captain of the latter, had his leg broken. The charge of murder against Maihi Kai has come to a conclusion. Forty seven witnesses were examined. Accused was committed for trial. It is intended to deliver the Financial Statement on Friday week if the Address in Reply is disposed of by then, and if not on the following Tuesday. Tbe Coptic brought out 700 tons of material for the Midland Railway Company. It is now being transhipped to the West Coast. The Victoria Lodge of Freemasons, Napier, conducted its proceedings last night under the dispensation of the Grand Lodge of New Zealand.

Robert Dalrymple, schoolmaster at Grrston, Southland, has committed suicide. A curiouj case was heard at the R M. Court at Nspier yesterday. Some time ago a traveller named Moraton brought an action against the Union S.S. (Company for a lost portmanteau. He claimed £55, and received judgment for £2O. His solicitor, Mr Cresswell, handed him £l2 St, the balance bring retained for costs in exoeas of the amount allowed by the Court. Moretou now brought an action against Cresswell for the amount retained. Judgment was reserved. Two men last night attempted to rob the Blenheim branch of tbe Colonial Bank. Mt Howard, accountant, on retiring a few minutes after eleven, was attacked in the dark by two men who had gone in by the back window. He resisted, and cried vigorously for help, and the men fled. Nothing had Men touched, There was no trace of the burglars, though the police were immediately on the spot. Frederick Williams, Archibald Johnston, and Thos. Myall, said to be members of a gang of spielers, were sentenced at Christchurch, Johnston and Williams to throa months, and Myall to one month, tor vagrancy. Williams is to ba prosecuted for perjury. Inconsequence of these sentences there was a general exodus of those gentry by the steamer leaving tor Sydney, via Wellington. Eleven left in one vessel.
