A London correspondent writes:— We are informed by Woman, that the coming season will surprise its predecessors in tha number of beautiful women, and in extravagance of dress and functions. Frocks will be mora decollete, dinner parties later, dances more crowded, and rouge and powder more con* spicuous than ever. Woman ought to know. A lively scans took place in the Primilivt Church at Newatead, Victoria. Mr John Williamson, who officiated behind tbe pulpit, had completed ihe reading of tbe last hymn, and befors the first chord of the organ had sounded, one of the congregation stood op and demanded from the preacher a satisfaotcry answer relative to the last two lines of the last verse, which were as follows t—--11 What he bids ua that to do,” He then asked the preacher “ Do you act up to this ?*' This emanating from another local preaches appeared to somewhat puzzle the one in (Possession of the pulpit, who said he would give his answer at the close of the sorviM, “ I demand it at once,” said the irritabla questioner, These remarks brought up ■ third, a very corpulent old gentleman, who on looking down at tbe first speaker, laid—- “ Sit down: such scenes are disgraceful,” The querist insisted on having an answer. The congregation became alarmed, they looked at the preacher; the preacher looked with wicked eyes upon the irate one, and the “ old gentleman ” was up in arms prepared to defend the pulpit at any cost. At last, peace was restored, and the service was proceeded with to ihe end- Not for long, however, did peace reign, for as tbs congregation left the church high words were indulged in by the parties, and some forcible language used, which it is rumored, Will ba Milled behind the pollen ooufl pulpit.
