POLITICAL NOTES.
[special to standard.] Wellington, last night. The general election is expected to take place early in October. The Government have taken up the measures for the early closing of shops and representation of seamen. Sir Harry Atkinson will not resign if he can possibly avoid it. He has determined to again contest the Egmont seat. The new Sheep Act provides for a yearly rate of 2s for every hundred, or fractional part of a hundred, sheep.
