ANOTHER CRISIS IN THE HOUSE. THE • SKINFLINTS ’ ON THE WABPATH. [special to the standabd.J Wellington. last night Another crisis has arisen on the question of retrenchment. About a dozen Government members waited on the Premier on Saturday, and insisted on a reduction of the estimates by the sum of £50,000. The Premier took a determined stand, and said the retrenchment could rot Jhe effected. On the suggestion of Sir John Hall (who was present), however, he promised to take ths amounts off the different chases whan the estimates were before tha House. A meeting of SoonomiaH was held to flay, Mr Withy presiding, when a patty was
formed and n committee appointed. The information i« that they were determined to have a £50,000 reduction, be the consequenoes wbat they may. The latest on authority is that the Government will either resign or dissolve the House if the economists persist in their movement.
It is stated that not only Is the appointment of Mr Justice Edwards illegal, huttbat a bill is being brought in to validate the appointments of Justices Johnston, Gillies, Richmond, and Williams. There was a warm debate on Mr Edwards’ appointment on Friday night, and an adverse motion by Mr Seddon is still under discussion.
