The Silver Age relates that a pushing business man offered to supply hymn-books gratis to a certain poor church conditionally on his. being permitted to insert his own advertisements therein. The offer was accepted, and when his books were delivered the congregation could at first find no advertisements ; but at last one Sunday the parson proceeded to give out hymn No. 220, which, hideous to relate, began : Johnson’s pills are nice and mild: Tw® for an adult and one for a child.
