COUNTY COUNCIL.
Tas above Council met yesterday afternoon. Present: The Chairman, and Cra Orr, King, Stubbs, Tuohy, and Murphy. Mr J, W. Johnson wrote asking the Council to have the approaches to the Murewai bridge faspined and covered.—Decided to call for tenders for the work. The Waikohu Boad Board wrote applying for a subsidy of £7 19s 7d accrued tor worka at the Willow crossing.—Granted. The Engineer said he had given notice to men on the Pakarae to cease work next week, and estimated that it would cost £OO tor repairing the road between Puatae and Pakarae. He referred to the disgraceful state ot the Quarry road, but said it could not be avoided as there was no solid formation. Cr Tuohy drew attention to tho atate ot the Matawhero road,—The Engineer said he bad engaged carts, and would start next weak to put on metal at Weston’s expense. Leave of absence was granted to Cr McPhail tor the three past meetings. Communications were received tram the Treasury in regard to the special rata tor the Hangaroa district. There was only one tender received tor repairing the Mangatuna bridge, viz., F Steele, £l6, which was accepted. Payments were passed as follows:—Gordon and Gray, £9 16s ; W. G. Sherratt,£lB ; Brownlow and Kiely, £l2 12t: Ktiwaru, £2 15s; P. McLoughlin, £lO 14s; A. H. Wallis, £2; sundries, £18s; H. McLeod, £7 7s; Moore and party, £2l 2s ;J. Trimmer, £4 Ils; H, Loisel, £4 4s; A. Muir, £18; Harbor Board, £2 Is 8d ;A. Parnell. £2 18s; B. Brooking, £3 175 a t expenses Wbangara poll, £1 Ila j salaries, £45 16s 8d ; G. Blackstock, £1 Bs.
