Hospital Trustees.
An ordinary meeting of the Hospital Trustees was held last night. Present; Captain Tucker (Chairman), and Messrs Watson, Coleman, Lucas, Hepburn, Stubbs, A. Brown, and Dr Johnstop. The monthly report showed—Remaining from last month, 4; admitted, 6; discharged, 3; remaining at date, 7. Qu the recommendation of the Visiting Committee, it was agreed to asphalt the courtyard at the rear of the building. Dr Johnston made a general report on the oases at present under treatment. In reply to a communication from the Secretary, Dr Pollen wrote :—“ lam in receipt of yours of the 29 h uli., enclo-iog a list rtf instrum mts and appliances which cannot be found at the Hospital, and which tbe Trustees ask me ‘ to account for the loss o!.’ I have looked through my instruments carefully in case some of ths ones you ask about might have got mixed up with them, but with the exception of a urethea forceps and a bladder trichar which I do not remember buying, none c! the (terns described are amongst them. I might point out that a good many of the things in your list are perishable articles, especially clinical thtrmom.ters, hypodeim c syringes, pessines, catheters, bugiee, etc. Sima of the articks mentioned I remember seeing at the Hospital shortly bit ire 1 left. Ou the other hand some I never remember having seen there at all. I am glad to give the Trustees any information in my power on the subject, but at ths same time I do not admit any responsibility. When tha accounts came ap tor payment, it was thought better to defer the passing of the acecunt for Dr Pollen's quarter’s salary, pending a reply. A morion by Me Stubbs was adopted, being in effect that the Medicul Officer be held responsible for all instruments supplied to the institution,
The Visiting Committee appointed were Messrs Stubbs and Tucker.
Dre Innes and Johnston made application for the position of Medical Officer, in the terms set forth in the advertisement. Mr Coleman proposed, and Mr Watson seconded, that Hr Inucs be appointed. There being no oth- r proposal, the motion was carried. The' following tradesmen tendered for the supply of groceries: W. Adair, Teat and Friar, and E. Ohrisp. Mr Adair’s tender, the rawest la tfee aggregate of the principal articles 0! consumption, was accepted. For the supply of meat Messrs Hatton and Score and J. Clark tendered at 3d per lb all round. The tender of the former was accepted, as they hud given every satisfaction in the past year. There was only one tender for the supply of bread, at 3Jd, from (Jess a 'l'eat and Friar, but it was considered q£ .cheap to b»y fereafl ip the ordinary way. There was a large number of tenders for coal and'flrewood. Messrs Clayton and Sawyer’s, being the lowest, Was accepted. Accounts amounting io £7310s were passed {or payment,
