The Argentine provinces are suffering from drought. Seventeen persons were shot dead, and many wounded, during an election riot near Bombay. Wool is firm, and competition active.
An exhumation in Hungary showed that a woman buried alive had given birth to a child after interment. Kaiser William has assured Emperor Francis that the existing treaties would be continued.
The barque Lochnagar, which was damaged in a collision in the Channel, has been repaired, and has sailed for Napier. The British Squadron has arrived at Mozambique. The Governor has been ordered to maintain a friendly attitude towards the British Squadron, unless their conduct should compel him to vindicate the honor of Portugal.
