Last night. Mr Justice Denniston has granted a petition of the N. Z. Shipping Company, asking the Supreme Court to confirm tbe resolution reducing the Company's capital. Fred K Beaten, an old man paralysed for Sars, was admitted to tbe Christchurch ospitsl, Buffering from arsenical poisoning, and has since died.
Mr G. B, Woodman, wellknown in bowling and hunting circles, died to day at Christ church.

The three year old child of Mrs Andrew, boardinghouse keeper at Lyttelton, fell into a tureen of hot soup on Monday last, and died from the scalding, at 10 30 last night. The Customs revenue for September was £128,780 against £145,514 in Auguat and £146,310 in September last year. Auckland contributed £3O 337, Wellington £21,473, Christchurch £21,138, Dunedin £3.8,223. Parliament will be further porogued to October 4. In the interval a Gazette will be issued dissolving is, .nd calling a new House together on December 17. The date of the elections seems to recede further every day. Probably they will be put off till the beginning of December. Members who have been consulted all want different dates, and the Ministers themselves are not entirely agreed on the point. The necessity for the thorough revision of the rolls is given as an Obstacle in the way of an early election.
