SPORTING.
The Caulfield Guineas race is to be decided to-day, October 11. Mr C. Pitt’s Fitzjames arrived from Napier yesterday morning, by the steamer Southern Cross. The horse was in charge of Harry Moore, and was landed without a scratch. Evidently Fitz will not be amongst the starters for the New Zealand Cup. Owing, no doubt, to the fine weather we have experienced during the last week, the Park Company's training-track presents a rather busy appearance in the early morn. Trainers are now beginning to send their charges along a bit, and those that put in an appearance, are doing good, strong, useful work. Tha trank is in splendid going order, and reflects the greatest credit on the caretaker.
A trotting match from Ormond to the Masonic Hotel took place on Thursday morn ing between Mr G. Davis’ pony and Mr T. Albert’s brown mere, both well-known, for £lO a side. The former wan driven in a li<rh l sulky; the latter was riddan by Mr Te Kani Pare, and won easily wi’h about three minutes to the good. The times given are disputed.
