THE PREPARATIONS FOR THE BIG MEETING.
Melbourne, Thursday. The acceptances for the Cauffie'd Guineas are -.—Prelude, Titan, Whimberel, Annesley, Beverley, Hamilton, Silver .Cord, Minnie. Neckar, Wiora. At Flemington Tarcoola did a good mile and a half, running the last mile in 1,52. Titan accomplished 9 fur'onge in 2.4, but pulled up none too well Tantallon and Prince Consort galloped a mile in 150, and th- Lawyer did similar work. Lady Carbine aud Disdain filly ran four fur-oogs in 51 face. At Caulfield Leopold and Cuiia-sier put in a sterling mile and three quarrers, the former appearing to the best advantage. Maggie beat Bothwell by six lengths in a mile and a half gallop. Try Again had all the beet of a fast mile and a half spin with Churchill. Tourbillon was sent round at a gallop for the same distance. Betting is quiet over the V.A.T C. Meeting. For the Caulfield Cup, 100 to 7is offered against Little Bernie, and Singapore has been knocked back to 100 to 3. Highborn h ie been backed to win a good sum for the Caulfield Cup at 100 to 2, and 100 to 4 is now the best offer. Odds of 1000 to 50 have been accepted about Chaldean for the same race. Titan is the favorite for the t’aulfield Guineas, at even money. For the Melbourne Cup 5000 to 200 has been laid about The Queen. Litigant is scratched for the Melbourne Cun.
