A sharp secretary of a southern racing club that was in need of funds drew iu £4OO by an audacious move. He got a directory, and addressed letters to a few hundred of tbe most likely person?, saying they had been duly elected honorary members of the club and would be enrolled upon receipt of £5 6s. The bait took capitally, though some of the replied were inuliued to be warm.
