Death of Te Kooti's Mother,
A Te Abai correspondent sends us the following interesting ilem :—An old Maori woman named Heni died near Whakatolast Tuesday. She was the mother of the notorious TeKooii, whose name is held in Poverty Bay as synonymous with all that j 3 evil. The woman had a strange motherly infatuation for tbe former rebel, and was so persistent in her praises of what she deemed his good deeds that she has for years become regarded almost as an outcast, it being no uncommon thing for her to have to sleep out in the open air, among the briars and scrub, and submit to many hardships which she might have escaped by avoiding to bore and disgust the other natives with her praises nf Te Kooti. Her age was supposed to be 79 vears. The tangi usual on the death of particp’ar Maoris will not be troubled about in the case of poor old Heni,
