A London paper got a well-deserved a few weeks back. It expressed that Jews should have joined in the celebration of Cardinal Manning’s silver jubilee. In reply the Jewish World says :—“Surely the Echo is somewhat blind to the articles even of its own faith, let alone the grand humanitarian principles underlying Judaism, if it finds so strange an anomaly in Jews professing love and admiration for such a man as Cardinal Manning ! What matters the creed one is born to, be it Jewish, Christian, or pagan, when one’s soul is illumined with the heavenly virtues or brotherly love, divine charity, and noble minded justice. AU these rare but precious qualities have influenced the career of the illustrious churchman, and the Jews, like other races, have had cause to bless the brotherly help of Cardinal Manning.”
