Messrs Dillon and O’Brien have left France for New York.
Mr Balfour is paying a visit to the dis tricts which are affected with potato blight. He was well received.
Fresh summonses have been issued against Harry Harrison, M.P. for Mid Tipperary, for taking part in -the Tipperary riots.
Father Humphries has applied., for a summons against Mr Balfour, but was refused.
It is announced that the marriage of the Marquis of Hartington with the Dowager Duchess of Manchester will be celebrated at Easter.
The decision of the Dock Companies to abolish labor gangers is likely to provoke serious trouble. The dockers are sullen, and refused to fulfil the agreements arranged by their leaders. The secretary of the Sailors’Union advises that action be taken to precipitate any struggle. Two of the Atlantic Liverpool line of steamers have been laid up, affecting sixty thousand tons of shipping. The Clyde Shippers’ Association decline to discuss the wholesale laying up of vessels. The Dock Committee offer free laborers fair wages with pensions, and will engage laborers without the intervention of middlemen. They renew piece work at Albert and Victoria Docks.
