Employers’ Association.

’to the editor ] Sib,—The effects of the present strike are working some of the greatest changes socially, the world has over seen. Fancy, Capital is going to take Labor under its wing. The shrewd and intelligent employers of Hawke's Bay are not satisfied with forming a union amongst themselves for their own protection, but they must invite Labor into their fold, under the guise of protecting them from their fellow workers. Our local employers are following suit, the Employers and Free Laborers’ Association (high sounding name, is it not ?) is going to do everything that is good tor the worker. How they term it “ free ”is a poser, members having to sign a declaration, which binds them body and soul, to its rules. An employer who holds this bait to a fellow creature, with less intelligence than himself, stands out as an object that will strive to gain his selfish ends. And a laborer, wh o joins this Association, holds up a brand against bis intelligence which shows him to be a stumbling block to the progress of the world.—l am, etc., Non-Unionist. [Libellous matter has been expunged from the above,—Ed.)
