HARBOR BOARD.

A oommunioation was. read from the Bnrnugb Council askrbgJhat-Jibonterence be held concerning the Taruheru bridge.—Mr Shelton considered the proposition was a good one, os the board should know what was being done in these matters.—Mr Johnston would vote against the letter being paid any attention to—he had always hefd that the Board should have full control of these bridges.—Mr Shelton pointed out that the Counoilß bad to contribute towards the bridges.—Mr Townley sail the conference oould not necessarily offset the question—the conference might possibly decide the matter in such a way that no future control would be Mflttsßtuy. —Mr Bievwrigbt could see no harm in a conference.—Mr fshelton thought it would ba sufficient just to appoint Captain Ohrisp to attend and take part in the discuseion.—lt was decided to appoint Captain Chrisp and the future Chairman of the Board to represent the Board at the conference. Mr Johnston dissented.

various clauses, and taken credit, for the several refunds provide I therein, we are of opinion that the sum r. qnired to be raised by rates, for the year 1891, is the amount of £5,300. We therefore recommend that the following rates be struck early in January of next year :—A rate on the special district of id in the Borough, and.-Jd in the County (excluding Tologa) equal to £2000; a rate on Cook County, of fd in the Borough, and -Jd in the County, equal to £3,300. The rate to be made payable in two equal instalments on 31st March and 30th June, 1891, and that the Secretary be instructed to make the preliminary preparations. The Chairman said it was most unfair to the Borough—it was simply monstrous that the Borough should thus be so much burdened beyond what was borne by the other portion of the district. —Mr Arthur said there was no doubt it was wrong,—The report was adopted. The Wharfinger reported that the planking of the viaduct required attention, some being rotten.—To be attended to. The Harbormaster reported that the state of the channel was much improved, with 16 ft. at the outer end, but the high tides were fast washing away the bank at the upper portion of the training wall and sand was also blowing over, m .king a hank near the end of the wall.—The Chairman said it seemed there was plenty of accommodation for steamers, and a carefully prepared report of the depths ought to be given to the Union Company.—Mr Sievwright said there was no doubt good accommodation.—lt was considered that nothing could be done at present in regard to the sand blowing over the fascines. —It was agreed that the boats and buoy be painted. The following payments were made:— Insurance. £3 15s, cable £6 5s 6d, wages account £3 15s. avharflnger £l6 13s 41, Secretary £8 6s 81, F. J. Piesse £4 4s, Wingate Burns and Co £3 0s 9d, G.
