It is stated that Mr Parnell resigns the leadership of the Irish party. Portugal and England have arrived at a temporary convention. Dr Koch is ill, having been inoculated with lymph, and it is feared that tuberculosis has set in. Dr Libbets, of Berlin, is selling consumptive .lymph, the component parts of which are not revealed. It is claimed that it killsjtubercle tissue, not baccili, and that the former is afterwards removed by surgical operations. ■Yesterday the severest tension was experienced on the money market since ’’ Black Friday,” 18th of May, 1886, when the height of the panic in London was reached. A leading financial house became involved through heavy purchases in Argentine stocks, and was compelled to ask the assistance of the Bank of England. The Bank promptly complied with the request, and a guarantee committee, composed of several leading financiers, was formed. The difficulty was thus overcome, and an unparalleled financial calamity averted. The liabilities of the firm in difficulties are set down at but the assets show a surplus of £4,000,000 over this. The guarantee which the committee of leading financiers gave was for X9,000,00e.
