BOROUGH COUNCIL.
As Ordinary meeting of the above was held On Tuesday evening. Present: Tbe Mayor (Mr Townley) and Crs Harding, Hepburn, Joyce, Lewis, Dunlqp, and Taylor. The Wha'aupoko Road Board wrote requesting that the Cuuocil get the eight roads approaching the river gazetted, the cost being about £4.— Cr Lewis objected to the Council goiog to expense on roads that did not connect with those on the town side. The Mayor said the owners of property Should have attended to the matter, but in the circumstances fie thought they should try and meet the Board, Cr Joyoe qlso spoke in (ayor of that being done, ana it was agreed to accede to the request. The Overseer reported .'-During (the last fortnkht two m«u fave been employed repairing and tarring footpaths ; six blocks have been done. The footpath on the west aids Of (derby street from Gladstone Road into Palmerston road as far as the kerbiqg txtends la nine chains. To tar this block with two. coate will coat £2O os. In regard to Bright street it was decided to leave the matter to the Overseer to see what could be done in regard to getting the consent of property owners. A statement was made showing the state of the in regard t<x> the pound, proving that tb.ro had - beyr no loss. Councillors expressed their 'satisfaction at the way the pound had been rranaged, and remarked that tjiere had not been a complaint made since “the new arrangement. The following accounts were passed for payment:—lnsurance £l2, Bridges account £2 3r, E. Clements £2 9s, A. Robb £2 9s, H. •Hartington £2 2s, M. Morgan £2 3s 3d, A. R. Muir £2 ss, Gas Company £2 12s 63, Town Clark £l6 13s 4d, R. Robinson £4 6s 83, E. AVikinson £l3, T. Faram £l3, T. Morrison £B, Nightwatchman £2 3s 4d, J. B. Jones £l. It. was decided, on the application of Cr Lewis, to remedy the defective drainage between Grey and Bright streets. Qrs Lewis, Joyce, Taylor, and Harding voted for the motion. There was a discussion on the financial question; the Mayor saying that if they went on that way they would soon be unable to draw a cheque. Cr Hepl urn said*tflfoe block were done there would st once be an agitation to have the others dene. On the motion being carried, Cr Joyce moved and Cr Harding seconded, that the water table from Lowe street to Peel street be also done. The motion was carried, the division being the same.
