That Bridge.
[TO THE EDITOB.J Sia,—Mr File’s attempt to he funny is as feeble as the arguments fie' employs. He makes -the ridiculous proposition that because the Council have been foolish they should continue so. There js g plurality about the “ we” used, as may yet be found to some one’s cost if the Council goes oh neglecting work it should attend to, just to' please a few agitators who shrink into nothingness the moment they are asked to put their hands in their pockets to support what they claim to be such a great convenience. Bad as the position has become I don’t believe there is one ratepayer who would grudge replacing the structure at a reasonable cost if there was any guarantee that po fnrtherexpe'nditure would be required within, say 12 months. Mr File says no one Sdvises a law suit with Messrs Nelson Bros ; 11 be wants is to be able tq say (hat by making a howl in public he was successful in getting the Council to go to further expense. Well, there are ratepayers who may feel impelled to take action against Councillors individually if they dare to spend more money upon a structure that may be knocked down the same night without anyone being, held responsible, Mr File has stuck well to ths encroaching class since he gave up that Political Association, and it would be well did he not attempt to be funny over such a serious question, or his qualification to set up as a lawyer may ba questioned. If the Whataupoko people have got anything to say, let me ask whether the recent trouble at ths big bridge has not opened their eyes.—l am &c., Bobocgk.
