[SPUniAL TO THS OroxiKi, yesterday. At the Police Court to-day, in the CftSGg Rogers v Kelly, Rogers v F. Bates, Wills v Howse, Wills v Fagan, a fine of 20s and Court costs wa.3 imposed in eaah case. Solicitor’s fees were disallowed. The case Wills v F. Bates wan dismissed. The hearing qf these cases took place on Monday last. Mr Cooper, of Xqckland. was for tfe pi'oseci’.tion, and Me Jones, ox riisbqrne, for the defence. Judgment was siren to-’day, the result being really a fizzle, and, is considered a victory io» th? from Gisborne. In the case Wills y Bates (editor of ths Herald), alleged libel, defendant was committed, and the case will be tried at Auckland in March. There are sureties of ££o each, defendant himself in £4O. Promises of substantial support for the Herald are coming in daily. Mr Kelly’s meeting at Whakr.tana recorded a 'unanimous vote of tliuliliS and eonfldlcnee.
