NAPIER. Last night. Thera was a furious westerly gale lastnight. The ship Rangitikei parted her cable at midnight, a,nd was blown to sea She fouled the ship Balolutha, carrying away part of her bulwarks. The steamer Matatua went after her this morning. The Rangitikei is now sailing to the roadstead, SOUTHERN NEWS. Auckland, last night, There is no business doing to-day. Everything was given up to the elections The excitement is very great. The City contest especially is very keen Wellington, last night. Business was almoat at a standstill in the city to day, and everything is giving way to the elections. Dunedin, last night There is the greatest activity in the city to day, and in the neighborhood of the polling booths there is a large crowd, and there is much excitement. The polls at Dunedin suburbs will be the heaviest ever known,
