Acceptances and entries for the Maiden Plate are due on Thursday, Bth inst. GISBORNE RACING CLUB’S SUMMER MEETING. The last morning's work at the Park at tracted much attention, it being thought that something would be learned regarding our visitors. In this, however, the expectant ones were somewhat disappointed, as the going was not fast enough to supply an index of to day's running. One thing, though, is satisfactory, and that is the visitors here are thoroughly fit, and evidently have suffered nothing by their eea trip. The first on the ground wss Huntly, who treated Hora to a trip on the plough. The mare went round three times at a fair pace, finishing well. Zaccho did two miles on the same track, the first at about half pace, and the second strong, with a fa=t finish Little Joe, also on the plough, did a serviceable two miles. The “ Captain ” has got his horses very fit. and I don’t think anyone will begrudge him a win. Waterfall, in company with Kapo, had a two mile gallop on the course proper, the former having all the best Of it. Raven was treated to two miles on the plough, over sticks. His jumping at first was not altogether satisfactory, but at the finish had much improved. After his toilet had been attended to he did a serviceable two miles on the course proper. Duadine and Pouawa did slow work in clothing. Oeo did two miles at half pace, finishing fast. Cortolvin was sent two miles, the first threequarters at top speed, but being steadied during the balance of bis work. This young one has much improved, and must be held in respect. "TIPS.” To give anything like positive tips for the coming races to be held under the auspices of the Gisborne Racing Club, would be to solve some puzzle propounded by the Sphynx, but although difficult, the task is not impossible if a determination is made to rightly judge horses according to their previous performances, present condition, and las* but certainly not least, every consideration must be paid as to the treatment the horses engaged have received at the hands of that autoorat of autocrats, the handicapper. However, Ido not think my readers will have ocoasion to quarrel with the following selections: — Maiden Plate—Zanzibar 1, Harlequin 2. Flying Handicap—Huerfana 1, Papakura S, First Hurdles—Waterfall I, Bit of Bine 2. Grandstand Handicap- Nora 1, Pouawa 2. Park Stakes Handicap—Huerfana 1, Pureestring or Misfortune 2 For the seoond day’s racing it will be impossible to give anything like reliable hints. M the weights will not be declared before 8 o'clock, nor the acceptances made known before 9 on the night of the first day's racing.
