Destructive Fire at Tokomaru.

DAMAGE, £lOOO Axo.run destructive fire is reported from the Coast, the bush clearing again being supposed to be responsible for the loss to property, Messrs White and Biown, of Tokomaru, had a splendid crop of grass seed, which they arranged to save and deliver to Mr Wallis at <he excellent price ct six shillings a bushel. A large portion ct the crop bad been cut aud saved, while the remainder was iu flue condition, Unfortunately the crop took fire, it is supposed from the bueb-clearing fires on Mr Wallis’ station, and the devour, tug element swept right through the grounds, consuming the stuff that was already in the bags aa well as destroying the standing crop. The loss op account of the grate seed is estimated pt a thousand pounds, Messrs White and Brown were also doing bush clearing work, and a doubt is expressed as to how the crop was fired, but from the direction it camo the supnositioß is made M previously etatwl, ’ ’ -
