SPORTING.
Mick Maher is at present giving Caitiff good sound work, with a view of fulfilling his engagements iu Napier. Mr W, Lyons, the erstwhile Auckland bookmaker, and owner of Too Soon, was a through passenger for Melbourne by the Te Anau on Saturday afternoon. Lyons, who is looking well, came ashore for a short time to visit his Gisborne friends. The well-known Auckland bred mares Hilda and Cissy, the property of Mr T. S. Mornn, were on board the s.s. Te Anau on Saturday afternoon last, on the|r way South to fulfil their engagements at the approaching Dunedin Jockey Club’s Autumn meeting. Both mares are in splendid nick, and are a credit to tK-ir trainer—George Wright—who accompanies them. If appearances go for anything, whoever gets home in front of Hilda for the big money will about win.
