Athletic Championships.
(SPECIAL TO THB STANDARD.) Auckland, last night. Fully two thousand people assembled in the Domain to day to witness the opening day of the New Zealand Athletic Association's Championship Meeting. The weather was beautifully flue. The Aucklanders were out-classed in both the running and cycling events. T. M. Aloock, of Sydney, acted as timekeeper. The men who took part in the meeting were representatives of Australia and different parts of the colony. Wilmott, of Canterbury, won both the five mile and ten-miie bicycle championship. In the last named event there wae an excellent finish between him and Steadman, of Dunedin. Batzer, nt Wellington, annexed the 120 yards hurdle championship easily, in 16 2-sib Sega.; Mow, of Christchurch, waa secund, and Owen, Auckland, lhe only other starter, third. UpflU, of Auckland, proved successful in tbe long jump championship, jumping 20 feat 4 inches, Wood, of Christchurch, appropriated both lhe one mile fiat championship, and tbe half mile fiat championship. In the latter he ran the distance in two minutes, which is the amateur record for New Zealand, The three miles walking championship tell to A. F, Burton, of Auckland ; Cooks, Christchurch, second. Bailey, ot Sydney, was disqualified in the event for unfair walking, McPherson, ot Sydney, won the 250 yards flat championship easily, in 2 mms 4 3-10tli» secs; King, ot Wellington, second; Sefton, of Sydney, third. Tbe high jump championship was not decided, Laurie and Hume eacb jumping 5 ft 3 in. The GOO yards handicap fell to Roberts, who beat a large field. Spain, of Christchurch, won the two mile bicycle handicap.
