AUSTRALIAN.
lu connection with the shearers’ strike large bodies of unionists arriving at Claremont are armed with revolvers and Winchesters. Nearly a thousand unionists are encamped. Many of the Balcardine publicans who are in sympathy with the unionists threatened to open their houses to unionists free of charge, but the authorities have taken stronger steps, and will, if the trouble becomes more acute, peremptorily close all hotels. A large tract of country in the disturbed district is now on fire, but whether this is the result of outrage or not is not known.
