During the last tew days there has bean a very heavy gala blowing on the East Coast, When off Cape Palluer the steamer Tarawera met with a slight mishap to her machinery, and was detained in Wellington till midnight on Sunday till necessary repairs had been eff eied. She arrived in Napier some time I ast evening, and reaches here at daylight this morning, going on to Auckland at 9. Ou Sunday afternoon last the cutter Venus passed the Australia, bound South. The seas were breaking olean over the steamer, and she must have experienced about one of the roughest trips she has yet met with on the Erst Coast. The s.s. Southern Cross is expected to leave Auckland thia evening, for East Coast ports and Gisborne. The freezing hulk Prince of Wales will probably steam for Wellington to-morrow. On Friday last she made a trial trip round the roadstead, and everything was found to work satisfactorily, the refrigerating machinery being made to work as an auxiliary screw.
