THE WOOL TRADE.

A LIST of the colonial wool importations to England during the year 1890 is to hand. It gives the respective quantities, with the names of the companies, firms, or individuals who have made the importations. One thing that immediately strikes the eye is the proud position which the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company (Limited) continues to hold. In the exports from New Zealand the Company’s total (58,234 bales) is more than double that of the firm coming next on the list —Sanderson, Murray and Co. (with 27,483 bales) —and it could allow the majority of exporters (excepting a few of the higher ones) to jointly total their export, and then the Loan and Mercantile Company would still have a large balance to its credit. But not only does it head the New Z-aland list : it also tops the list for Australasia and the Cape, its total being 96,016 bales. New Zealanders must naturally feel pleased to know that a New Zealand Company, in the matter of wool export, holds the premier position in Australasia and the Cape. In the New Zealand list the other firms that have imported 10,000 bales or over into London are :—Sanderson, Murray, and Co., 27.483 bales ; A. L. Elder and Co., 18,305 ; Dalgety and Co., 14,274 ; Union Bank of Australia, 13,849 ; Redfern, Alexander and Co., 13,317 ; National Mortgage and Agency Company of New Zealand, 12,889 ; Miles Brothers and Co., 12,222. Those over 52,000 bales in the Australasian and Cape list are (of course excluding the Company named) :— Dalgety and Co., 94,905; Australian Mortgage, Land and Finance Company, 93,049; Sanderson, Murray and Co., 75,486; Union Mortgage and Agency Company of Australia, 52,393. None of the other importations total 37,000 bales.
