Gisborne Rowing Club’s Carnival.

CROWDS TURNED AWAY FROM THE DOORS. Those who had ao diligently worked in the organisation of the Rowjug Club', annual carairal, must bare felt w.U rewarded last night, when there w*« a moneter attendance. Before 8 o’clock great numb -re ha<i to be refn?ed admiaaion. and try as the Committee would to economiae space, a big crowd had to be turned away disappointed at not being able to gain admission. The merit of the performances fully justified the great publio enthusiasm shown, and <hs highest praise was accorded to those who bed been so painstaking in the preparations. The proceedings were greatly enlivened by the pl.asing music of the Garrison Band. . The Japanese invisible wire act by Mr A. Skipwosth was a very clever performance. The hungry boy competition, which fillowed, was a most laughable aff .ir, and was wun by Tardrill, In <hs horiz tnial bar, aerobatic statuary, and tumbling ihe various peiformers were vary warmly applauded for tbeir skill. The performers were : Messrs A. Sttipworth, H. Watson, G. Crawford, L. and F, Sberriff. Percy Matthews, and G. Beere, with the following ” baby ” performers—C. Muir, J. and H. S 'marvell, Arthur Matthews, and J*iesM. I'bey all went ihrouvh the paste allotted to them without a hitch, and reflected great credit on their inetruo'or. Mr A. Skipworth. The next item was the Handicap Hurdle Race, won hy H. Burna, J. Jubnstbn 2. F. Loomb, E. Swaim, Morrell, and Mackey also ran. There were only two sntri.a for ths Bicycle Race, Mouatt dropping our.
