Plans and Specifications.
[TO THE EDITOR.] Sir,—ln your issue of Thursday last Climax ” evidently feels very sore over a recent exposure in connection with a certain fire loss in this district. Re preparation of specifications, if "Climax” will take the trouble to walk a few hundred yards towards the West end of Gladstone Road, he will find that the architect’s fee referred to is £5 ss, being a stipulated sum, and not five per cent, on contract as stated ; or if he cannot properly read the Queen’s English, no doubt Ihe landlord of the premiseswill interpret the clause in question, and explain the reason why it was inserted. Plans and specifications are generally carried out in their entirety, and contractors should not be allowed to construct buildings feet shorter than what the plans show 5 neither should architects be directly connected with timber merchants, to the detriment of their own clients —I am, &c., W. J. Quigley, Architect.
