Cook County Liberal Association.
ELECTION OF OFFICERS. A meeting of the above Association was held last evening, when there was a good attendance. Mr Sievwright presided, and in an interesting speech explained the objects and aims of the Association. He referred to a local in our contemporary (disparaging to such Associations), which he said did not apply to the Association just formed, because it was not formed in the heat of an election, and it had never been the experience of such Associations in Gisborne that they repudiated their liabilities. The address (of which a full report is held over) was greeted with applause. Draft bye laws were read to the meeting, and referred to the executive. The remainder of the officers were appointed and now stand as follows President: Mr Sievwright; VicePresidents: Messrs Joyce, Stewart, and Sweet ; Secretary : Mr Birrell ; Treasurer : Mr Sigley ; Committee : Messrs Akroyd, W. L. File, O. Gallagher, R. Johnston, H. E. Johnston, C. J. hnston, J. Olhvier, J. Pierce, H. Pattqrson, L. Rees, J. Robb, R, Robb, E. Smith, and J. Whinray. A dozen new members were added to the Association. Mr Birrell undertook to lead a discussion on “ Socialism ”at next meeting. Great interest was taken in the proceedings, and the prospects of the Society seem very good.
