THE JEWS AND RUSSIA.
JERKING THE STRINGS. Following upon the action of the Roths- ' childs, in trying to corner Russia in money matters, by way of reprisal for the inhuman treatment of the compatriots of the Rothschilds, Russia has played Smother card from her side. The Rothschilds cancelled the contiact in Paris for a big loan to Russia, and now it is given out on fairly good authority that Russia will withdraw thirteen millions that are in various ways deposited with the banking house of Rothschilds. [This report will be viewed with alarm by those immediately concerned in tbe operations of the money market. The great crash of the Barings, the largest merchant bankers in the world, was brought about directly by the Russian Government withdrawing its deposits. Of course this was not the sole cause—it was merely the finishing strain after the Barings had been severely crushed by the Argentine crisis, and in other ways. They occupied a position which no other house in the history of English commerce ever occupied. Their fall left the Rothschilds the undisputed and unrivalled sovereign in the money market. It is net likely that the worst that Russia could do would cause the compatriots of King Solomon, in the persons of the Rothschilds, to be brought to the humiliating condition of the Barings, but in the iresent unsettled condition of things, Russia, though shaky herself, can make trouble in the money market.] A recent message from St. Petersburg states :—The evicted Jews from the interior are arriving in the capital. Thousands have been driven through the streets in chains like criminals, and the police are accused of carrying out their orders in an unnecessarily barbarous manner. There is a panic among the Jewish merchants in the city. LATER. The expulsion of Jews from Moscow has been suspended.)
