HARBOR RATES.

THE majority of people destroy receipts after a certain time, and especially is this the case with official receipts. It may therefore be of interest to those who, in view of the alarming defalcations in the Harbor Board accounts, are anxious lest they should be called upon to produce receipts for several years back, to learn that the Harbor Board rates are collected under the provisions of the Rating Act, 1882, section 31 of which reads as follows :— “ In respect of all rates made after the coming into operation of this Act no judgment for the same shall be given or signed after two years from the time when such rates first became due.” This it will be seen places a limitation on the time within which the Board can recover rates. It, however, does not preclude the Board from accepting rates which have not been paid.
