The Wellington Trades and Labor Council have acquiesced in the proposal of the Christchurch body, that a conference from all the Trades Councils of the Colony be hold here during tho sitting of Parliament, for the purpose of discussing the Labor Bills.

The Education Board of Christchurch has disapproved of the suggestion of the Wellington Board to hold a conference of Inspectors and representatives of school teachers. In consequence of the strictures passed on Keogh, of Dunedin, for last Saturday’s play, he has tendered his resignation as a member of tho Kaikora Match Committee, aud intends retiring from the football arena. The Moerakai Licensing District (North Otago) has declared in favor of Prohibition. Prohibitionists were returned by an overwhelming majority. The lowest Prohibitionist polled two and a half times as many votes as the highest Moderate candidate. The district comprises a large extent of country, and has a number of rising townships. The Government have arranged for five blocks of land, on the Catlin’s River Railway, Otago, to be set apart for Village Settlement purposes, the probability being that men engaged on the contract will take up the land on completion of the work. Surveyors in tho Wairarapa district are looking out for suitable land to devete to a similar purpose. At a special meeting of tho Invercargill Land Board today, Mr Spence, Chief Surveyor and Commissioner, who had been ordered to Westland, intimated that he had decided to retire from the service. The Gazette jesterday notifies that whereas malt acid has properties in part which can be used for similar purposes as vinegar, a duty of 6s 6d per gallon is levied on it. Yesterday morning the body of William McLennan, a farmer at Halkett. Christchurch, was found on the Halkett road. His neck was broken, and his horse and cart were standing by. He drove from the Addington market last night, and is supposed to have met with an accident on the road.
