The Coion Company‘s steamer Australia left Napier shortly after 5 last evening, and arrives here at daylight this morning, proceeding on North at 8. The Union Company’s steamer Wairarapa leaves Wellington at 5 o’clock this evening, and calls in at Napier to-morrow, reaching here early on Monday morning. She steams for Auckland, Bussell, and Sydney at 8. The Southern Cross had an exceptionally rough time from Tologa Bay, having met with a strong southerly gale. She left that port at 10 on Thursday miming and reached here at 6 o’clock same evening, but the sea was too high to allow any communication being held with the shore, and the steamer had to seek shelter for the night under Young Nick’s Head. At 7 yesterday morning she eteamed across the bay, when the. passengers and mails were landed, but the boat was unable to come to an anchorage owing to the heavy sea that was rolling into the bay. She, however, took «he lighter in tow, and tranehipped the cargo under Nick’s Head.
