The Truck Bill (writes the Press) which is to be introduced into Parliament next session as a Government measure, Is the same as appeared last session, with a few improvements suggested by the House, It contains 31 clauses, and makes provision for wages to be payable in money only, no deduction being made for interest on money received in advance by a workman ; contracts made in contravention of the foregoing to be null and void ; no contract is to stipulate as to the plape or the manner in which, or the person with whom any wages are to be expended ; no set-off to be allowed for goods supplied to workmen by ap employer ; an employer not to have action for goods supplied to a wotkman ; no deduction from wages is allowed for sharpening or repairing tools, etc. j payment of wages may be made by cheque if workmefi freely consents J remedies of
workman in the case ef dishonored cheque, draft, or order; manner as to service of legal process ; articles made by persons working on their own account to be paid for in money, and not by barter ; penalties for breaches of this Act; penalties on agent of employer, if person other than employer guilty of offence ; power of employer to exempt himself from penalty on conviction of actual offender ; penalties to be recovered summarily ; provision as to second and third offences ; if no evidence of a previous conviction, offence deemed to be separate ; limit of time for prosecution ; evidence of a previous conviction sufficient ; a partner not to be liable in certain cases ; judgment and execution against partners ; inspectors of factories and workrooms and mines ; to enforce the Act ; and the Act not to apply in certain cases.
