Harpies and their Prey.
(SPECIAL IO THK STANDABD.) Acckland, last night. The Greenway case is etill proceeding at the Supreme Court, and is creating quite a sensation. The evidence is of a most astounding character. Greenway is a lawyer, and a year ago was left a fortune by the death of his father, who wr,s very wealthy and had the reputation of being a miser. From that time till his incarceration in a Southern inebriate asylum Greenway was surrounded by harpies of the lowest class. He was shown the sights by a cabman named Bowden, who took him to ths various brothels in the city. He was kept constantly pljed with liquor, and under its influence, while even jn dejiriun; tremens, he gave away money as freelyas water. Large sums were spent in jewellery which was shown by to day's evidence was not worth one third of that paid for it. This was given to barmaids, and woman of easy virtue. One girl admitted he was in her house five days together. He was seldom conscious. Ho took her fop drives daily, and eventually wont South with her, all the time giving her money in substantial sums freely. During that time fights oceurad between Bowden and a patent modicino vendor named Hitchins for the possession ef Greenway,
