Last Tuesday night the first of a aeries of social re-unions was held in the Oddfellows' Hall, Parnell. These informal little gatherings promise to be very enjoyable. Dancing is not to occupy the whole evening, but to be varied by music, readings, recitations, private theatricals and tableaux. The expenses of the whole series are defrayed by a small subscription contributed by forty families, which is the limit imposed by the size of the only Jaall available. On Tuesday there were about sixty people present. The night wag the coldest we have had this year, and the comfort of an opera cloak to slip over a bajl dress in the intervals between the dances was demonstrated in a most practical manner. These stylish wraps are so easily made, so inexpensive, and such a safeguard against coughs and colds that no girl should be without one. The prettiest and most fashionable fit closely to the figure at the back, are gathered very full and high over the arm—standing as high as dress sleeves over the shoulder —and have high Medici collars. Some of them fasten closely down the front, like a cape. Others are made sling shape, and are tied by ribbons at the neck only. A very handsome effect is obtained by braiding or embroidering the high collar (and sometimes a yoke back and front, or a couple of strips down tho front) in contrasting colors or gold thread. Fur
