BOROUGH COUNCIL.

An ordinary meeting of tne above wae held on Tuesday evening. Present: The Mayor (Mr Townley) and Ore McLernon, Dunlop, Joyce, Taylor, Wbinray, and Lewie. Tbe Overseer made his usual report, in which be mentioned that Mr Knox’s contract was proceeding slowly, only 48 yards being broken, and he recommended that a progress payment of £2O be made and the deposit (£l5) returned. Mr Hiriss had delivered 105 cubic yards of Kaiti gravel, He had received the following prices for painting boards to indicate the names of streets F, Hall, £1 ISs, Hall and Ormond £1 8s Bd, T. Morrison £1 2s Od, James Robb £1 Is.

In regard to Mr Knox's contract the Mayor said tbe contract time was up on the 30ib, and it was impossible now to get the metal delivered. The Overseer said only about 88 yards out of 500 had been delivered.—The Overseer's recommendation was agreed to. It was decided to accepted Mr Robb's tender for painting the names of the streets. The Inspector in his report stated that, it had bepn remarked that there were dogs without collars in the Borough, but the dogs were registered, though they had lost their collars; they easily lost their collars in the Borough, principally by fighting. He asked for permission to place a few loads of sand in the pound.—The Mayor said, in regard to the dogs, that complaints were made that dogs worried the sheep. Tbe Inspector said that he killed all unregistered dogs.— Or McLernon thought the duties in this matter should be carried out with effect.— Or Joyce said the Inspector could not prevent dogs worrying sheep on the Waikanae —Or Dunlop thought the owners should be compelled to keep collars on their dogs; it did not necessarily follow that a registered dog would not worry sheep.—Or Lewis said it was almost impossible to keep tbe collars on the dogs; they cither got lost or stolen.™ The Mayor said the main object of the collars was that the owner of the dogs could be ascertained. Cr Lewis moved, and Cr McLernon seconded, that Mr Somervell’s tender ba accepted, and this was carried unanimously. The following accounts were passed for payment:—Gas Company £32 3s, Geo.
