[special to ths standard.] Wellinston, last night. Mr Perceval has been elected Chairmen of Committees, unopposed. It is the intention of the Government to shortly increase the maximum amount on which postal orders may be issued from Zx to Z - Six thousand pounds is about the amount paid annually by Government to policemen for long service pay. The Minister for Agriculture promises to consider a suggestion made that Government should offer a bonus for the discovery of a lead of mineral phosphates. Messrs Mitchelson and Carroll having arrived, all members are now in their places. The Minister for Lands hopes that Government will get authority to acquire the Glenmark estate, 75,000 acres, for settlement purposes. Sir George Grey’s Bill to regulate the admission of persons to practice in the Courts of law, the provisions of which are well known, has been read a first time, and its second reading has been set down for July 16. Steps will be taken this session to enable Government to repeal the Thermal Springs Act. 1 he taxation proposals of the Government will not come into force till the beginning of next financial year. The Bill to give State aid to Roman Catholic schools has been read a first time on the motion of Mr Hutchison. The financial debate was resumed last night by Mr Bryce. The Hon. W. P. Reeves replied. Both speeches are considered wishy-washy. Mr Kelly is likely to succeed in getting an agency for deeds registration at Gisborne.
