Messrs G. Matthewson, A. C. Arthur, and W. Sievwright have been appointed Government nominees for the Gisborne Harbor Board.

At ths Police Court yesterday morning a man named William McWilliams was lot off with a caution, for being drunk, and on a charge of indecent exposure, he was fined £l, with the alternative of 48 hours’ imprisonment.
There is a report in Wellington that there is evidence to prove that Sir Harry Aikinson originally proposed 16 nominees to the Upper House, and that the Governor's scruples prevented more than half the number being elected.
The Rev, Mr Gibson appears to have a very poor opinion of editors. On Sunday evening he spoke of “ some men who were as fit to lead public opinion as a certain longeared animal was to lead a railway train.” The simile Is not new by any means, and it is needless to say that the rev. gentleman holds different views to those he speaks of so disparagingly. Mr Airey, the well-known musician, left Gisborne on Sunday, with the intention of travelling with the Dobson-Kennedy Company. Mr Airey is a man of superior musical ability, and many Gisborne people who have recognised this will be pleased to learn good tidings concerning him. The Company is fortunate in scouring the services of a man of Mr Airey’s ability. At the R. M. Court on Saturday a native was fined 10s, and costs 18s, for the nonregistration of two dogs. The charges against two other natives were withdrawn. Ono native deposed that he had given the money to the deputy collector, as he had told Mr Thelwsll he would. Mr Thelwall said there might have been a misunderstanding, and the deputy collector had perhaps forgotten to mention tka matter, Then the native took the money out of his pocket, and said that the deputy collector had given it to him book and advised him to pay it into Court. Mr Thelwall naked for costs against the defendant. Mr Booth thought it would not be fair to make defendant pay costs under the oiroumstanaei. It was decided not to require costs. The annual meeting of the Gisborne Racing Club was held in the Argyll Hotel on Saturday afternoon, when the following gentlemen were appointed a committee for the ensuing year:—Messrs W. Maude, W.
