HARBOR BOARD.

Only the Chairman and Messrs Joyce, Arthur, and Matthewson attended the meeting of the Harbor Board on Tuesday night, and after over an hour’s delay it was decided to adjourn until 2 yesterday to open tenders, pass payments, and transact other necesfsary business. The sartie members attended, Mr Shelton making up the quorum. Mr Burns applied for a lease of a site upon which to erect a slip for repairing vessels. The Chairman said a couple of boats would have to be sent to Napier soon to have repairs done, as the owners would not again risk the vessels on the present fixing ; there had been a long delay in dealing with this application, and he thought they might reasonably grant it. On the suggestion of Mr Shelton the matter was referred to the Committee. Messrs Richardson and Lucas applied for the position of returning officer.— Decided to bring the matter up next meeting. The Inspector of Nuisances wrote stating that there were some dead animals on the foreshore.—Decided to have them buried. The Schoo! Committee claimed exemption from rates.—Resolved that the rates must be paid, Mr J. Brown wrote re depreciation of Board's plant.—Resolved that the lettef lie on the table. Mr Joyce indignantly left the room on not being informed who had authorised the getting of the report. Mr Bright having arrived there was still a quorum. The fallowing tenders were received for fixing the Board's office at the wharf,—J, Somervell, £76 for fixing office, and £29 for extra wharf; J. Maokrall, for office £64, for wharf £l2 10a ; W. O. Skaat, for office £6B, for wharf £25. Mr Skeet’e tender was accepted, for removing office only. Mr Wiig was granted permission to remove tije iron hoops from near the railway line.
