Mr Booth : There is plenty of work to be got at bushfalling in the district, men being called for every day, and yet you don’t think you can pay a poor woman for what you have had eating and drinking in her house, It is disgraceful 1 In examination by Mr Watson (for plaintiff), the defendant said he had earned £5 since the second of July, He was now living at his father’s place, having gone there on Tuesday, He had been earning 25a a week, end was paying 15s a week for board, Mr Booth: I should have thought you could have lived for less than 15 a a week—a young man with no family ties, I should have fancied, could have lived for 10s very comfortably. I know many people who do, Defendant, in reply to Mr Watson, said he had received £5 Iron) the Rowing Clijb some time age, Mr Watson : Have you any proposition to make? Defendant: I will give her what I promised, 7e 61 a week, Mr Booth : That is not enough—you ought to be able to pay 15s a week, it you are getting ms, IQs is endttgh to live on, Mr Watson said Mrs Menzies would be willing to accept 15s a week, and would go further, and agree to an adjournment for a month if defendant paid.. 15s 5 week as an earnest. Mr Booth (addressing defendant) I have ns pity for you—for young fellows like this there is plenty of work now, but idle young fellows get loafing about tbe town, and they don’t oars what they eat and drink. I make an order that you pay 15s a week. If you do hoi pay that you must come back In another month and show good cause why you have not paid ituj
