Who is to Blame ?
[from oou ows cobbbspondent.] Ormond, August 27. A great sensation was caused here to day, shortly after 3 o'clock, by a lame pack horse bearing the remains of the late unfortqnate young man Walker, being driven through the township by Constable Parmer, assisted by three or four other men. The bqdy being that of a tall young man, bad evidently worked its way to one side, as the feet were within a short distance of the ground, the general appearance of tbe cavalcade being enough to make one eick, and anxious that the sight of the affair should turn out to be a dream. Who is responsible for this sacrilege of abomination ? I may freely say, that in all m? life J have never seen (and sincerely hope never to see sgain) such a loathsome sight, Tbe township is thoroughly scandalised over the matter, and the greatest indignation is being expressed on all sides, If it was absolutely necessary to bring the body to Ormond, it was ’lot absolutely necessary '< to pack ” it all thd way, as I am credibly informed that the landlord of the Ormond Hotel offered to send a trap to Poututu to bring ths remains here; an offer which it is a thousand pities was not accepted, as the road is quite passable and good, to that station, for wheeled traffic. Even, however, if the circumstances were against any other means of locomotion then that adopted, could not the remains have been brought in over night ? Could not some other plan have been devised to prevent such an unseemly and demoralising spectacle as ths dead body of a man lying across a lame pack horse being driven through a populous township in broad day—light’ To put it very mildly; those responsible for this outrage, have undoubtedly merited the graveat censure.
