THE BRYCE AFFAIR.
ATTEMPT TO SMOOTH MATTERS OVER. SIR GEORGE G&EY CONSIDERS MR BRYCE WRONGLY TREATED. [SPBOIAI TO THS STASDARD.] Willtnotox, yesterday. After the member for Waikato had agreed on Saturday not to take any action till to day Sir George Grey waa approached by leading membere of the Opposition, with the view of getting him to move that Thureday'a reaolu. tion be expunged, and he at once expreaaed his willingness to give effect to tho desire expressed, adding that he considered Mr Bryoe had been wronglytreated. Sir George Grey's intention on the House meeting to day was to propose a bare resolution, expunging Thursday night’s vote of oensure, but the difficulty in the matter was that, while there was a olear majority of the Houie in favor of rescinding the vote of censure, the resolution oin only be put without notice by the unanimous consent of the House, and a single dissentient voice would prove fatal. The Government are understood to be unfavorably disposed towards expunging the resolution of censure, and all efforts to return to the statue quo ante have failed. The Opposition are considering the question of a new leader. Sir John Hall ia said to have refused it, and the ohoioe will probably fall on either Captain Buaaell or Mr Rolles ton.
