It is nevertheless anticipated that, owing to cheap management and light mortality, very handsome bonuses will become payable to Policyholders insuring under existing rates. That this is not a mere estimate may be judged from the fact that, under the old scale of premiums, from which comparatively little profit was expected to accrue, no less than £242,000 of CASH SURPLUS, or nearly 85 per cent, of the whole accumulated fund at that date, was found to have accrued during the quinquennium ended the Slst December, 1885. Of this amount £150,000 was divided, and the balance carried to reserve. All Participating Policies are entitled, on besoming claims, to a Prospective Bonus in accordance with the amount of premiums paid since the preceding distribution.
