TWO GRAND RACES. The third day’s racing of the Australian Jockey Club took place on Thursday last, the results being as follows Second Hurdles—Grandson 1, Fog 2> Killarney 3. Ten others started. Grandson took the lead at the seven furlong post and maintained it to the straight, where Hanguard assumed command, followed closely by Grandson and Yabba. The latter fell at the hurdle in the straight, and grandson coming again cut down the leader, and won by a bare head from Fog, who with Killarney came very fast down the straight. Time, 3m 59}s. Montrose 11. and Bella also fell, and Williams, the rider of the former, and Kemp, who had the mount on Bella, were both badly injured, the latter being in a critical condition. Craven Plate —Marvel 1, Megaphone 2, Melos 3. Of 19 horses on the card Sir William was the only other one to face tile starter. Betting—7 to 2on Marvel, 4 to 1 agst Megaphone, anything the other pair. On the fall of the flag Sir William was the first to move, with Melos and Marvel next, Megaphone biinging up the rear. This order was maintained all along the back of the course, but as the sheds were approached the field closed up and began to race. Marvel showed the way into the straight, closely followed by Megaphone, who joined the favorite at the distance post-. A splendid race ensued, the pair racing home neck and neck, Marvel gaining the judge’s verdict by half a neck. Time, 2m Ils. Suburban Handicap—Hero 1, Garnda 2, Realm 3. Seventeen others started. Garuda was first away, and led for five furlongs, when Melba took up the running, but at the distance Hero came with a rush and won easily by three lengths. Second Foal Stakes—Oxide 1, Stromboli 2, Sunshine 3. Brasenose and Bengal also started. Oxide and Stromboli each carried 71b penalty. From an even start Oxide went away with the lead, but was overhauled by Bengal before reaching Oxenham's, and at the one mile post Stromboli was in front, with the others handy. A •little further on Bengal was again taken to the front, but at the half mile post gave place to the favorite and fell away last. Oxide at this time was gradually improving his position, and in the next furlong was at the girths of Stromboli, and a great race ensued. The Derby winner fairly held his own to the distance, but eventually the game son of Sardonyx wore him down, and won a good race by half a length. Wycombe Stakes—Bungebah 1, Aster 2, Albemarle 3. The other starters were Patrol, Norbert, Gatling and Buttons. Buttons and Albemarle led to the six furlong post, where the former went to the front, followed by Bungebah, and in that order they entered the straight. When fairly turned for home Bungebah inshed to the front and won very easily, Norbert 4th, Gatling Sth, and Buttons lest. Sydney Handicap—Cobham 1, Jack 2, Palliser 3 Ten others started. Palliser was in front as the field passed the stand the first time, and held his position to Oxhenham’s, when Easy John deposed him and took the field along for five furlongs. At the half mile post the field closed up, but in the next furlong Cobham came through and was never again headed, winning by a third of a length, five lengths Separating Jack and Palliser.
