The World’s Fair.

[7BOM 00 R OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Sydney, September 7. A movement is on foot to ensure the due representations of Australian wools at the Übieago World’s Fair, This will be biggest Exhibition that has been held within the memory of man, and it is all-important that Australia should be duly represented. If our staple products are brought under the notice of the wide-awake Yankee manufacturers there is every reason to believe that the tariff Which at present is prohibitory as regards medium wools, may be relaxed in our favour. But even if this cannot be accomplished, the sweeping advertisement given to our wools must tend to the great increase of trade. Even now American manufacturers pay a duty of 11 cents (nearly sixpence) per lb on about 50 000 bales of Australian wool yearly, and when its merits are better known this augntity might easily be doubled or trebled. One of the most encouraging features of the present movement is that it has not been shunted on to the el oulders of the Government to be carried out by possibly perfunctory officials and office-seekers, but has been taken in hand by the people whose interests are more directly concerned—the woolbrokere, namely, with the pastoralists behind them. I . sincerely hope they will bring it to a triumphantly successful issue.
